On January 24, 2025, a Beach Cleanup event was conducted at Kedonganan Beach, bringing together 55 participants in a collaborative effort to address waste management. This month, we partnered with SD 8 Ungasan, which contributed 20 students and two teachers to the initiative. We strongly believe that this hands-on experience serves as an invaluable educational opportunity, allowing students to witness firsthand the detrimental impact of waste on the environment. Within a short timeframe, participants successfully collected 1,033.67 kg of non-organic waste, which will be systematically sorted at the ZeroWaste Center for proper processing. We extend our sincere appreciation to Club Ocean for their unwavering support in this initiative, which seeks to enhance public awareness of marine pollution and its consequences. Looking ahead, we aspire to see this program continue and expand, ensuring that an increasing volume of waste is removed from Bali’s beaches. Ultimately, we hope that this meaningful action will further strengthen environmental consciousness, particularly in relation to ocean conservation.
Location and Condition of the Beach

Kedonganan Beach is a well-known destination among both local and international tourists, admired for its stunning natural scenery. Situated near a fishing village and a lively fish market where locals frequently buy fresh seafood, the beach experiences significant environmental impact from tourism and commercial activities. As a result, it is often littered with waste, which comes not only from land but also from the sea, where debris drifts from other areas and washes ashore. To address this issue, we have chosen this location for our Beach Cleanup event, aiming to showcase our commitment to the environment and raise public awareness about the dangers of marine pollution.

Waste Collection and Separation

At Kedonganan Beach, we collected a total of 1,033.67 kg of non-organic waste, with over 80% classified as residue—damaged, fragmented, and difficult-to-recycle materials. This month alone, we gathered more than 38 kg of glass bottles, which will be cleaned, sorted, and processed for recycling at the ZeroWaste Center. Some bottles will also be sent to larger waste management organizations for further recycling. Ghost nets, a recurring type of waste, made up 0.6% of the total collected. Additionally, we retrieved 45.28 kg of hard plastic, including plastic bottles, straws, and cups. Footwear, such as shoes and slippers, accounted for 1.6% of the waste. Overall, we collected approximately 19 different types of waste during this cleanup effort.
