The ZeroWaste Speech Contest resumed on February 14, 2025, with the participation of students from Bali WISE Intake 60. A total of 15 outstanding contestants delivered insightful speeches on various environmental topics. This competition is designed to enhance participants’ proficiency in English communication and public speaking. Through this event, we strive to provide a platform for participants to develop their potential, refine their skills, and gain valuable experiences that will benefit them in the future. Additionally, we hope to raise awareness of the critical environmental challenges we collectively face—issues that require urgent and effective solutions. Problems such as increasing waste accumulation, ocean pollution, and rising global temperatures demand immediate attention and concrete action. The ZeroWaste Speech Contest serves as an impactful medium for advocating environmental issues and fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of safeguarding our planet.

In this competition, participants were required to deliver their speeches in English within a maximum time limit of five minutes. The speeches focused on environmental issues, as the event is an integral component of the Environmental Study class undertaken by Bali WISE students. Throughout the event, numerous compelling and well-structured speeches addressed pressing topics such as flooding, waste management, coral reef degradation, and climate change. This opportunity served as a crucial moment for participants to enhance and broaden their understanding of environmental concepts taught in class. Additionally, it provided a practical platform for them to express their insights and contribute to raising awareness about critical environmental challenges.

The participants were assessed directly by a panel of experienced judges with exceptional expertise in communication and public speaking. Each contestant was evaluated based on several criteria, including speech structure, diction, confidence, the effectiveness of the environmental message, and creativity in delivering the topic in an engaging manner. Overall, the event proceeded smoothly, highlighted by the participants’ remarkable enthusiasm and dedication. Their diligent preparation was evident in their impressive performances throughout the competition. We hope that the ZeroWaste Speech Contest will continue to be organized for future cohorts, as it provides an excellent platform for students to refine their communication skills and deepen their understanding of environmental issues.
