Beach Cleanup on September 18, 2021
The monthly beach cleanup will be dedicated to World Cleanup Day. You can sign up for this beach cleanup at Geger Beach here. Join us and celebrate World Cleanup Day!
R.O.L.E. Foundation organizes monthly beach cleanups in the south area of Bali. The goal is to bring as least as possible to the landfill. The collected waste is cleaned, weighted and separated at the ZeroWaste Center according to the type of plastic and whether it can be recycled or not.
By doing beach cleanups, R.O.L.E. Foundation aims to create awareness about alternative ways of dealing with waste, so that the environment in Bali can be improved. We share this knowledge with local communities, local governments and beach cleaners.
World Cleanup Bazaar at the ZeroWaste Center
To celebrate World Cleanup Day with the surrounding local communities, the Zero Waste Center is organizing a World Cleanup Bazaar. During the bazaar, people from the surrounding local communities can exchange their collected waste stamps for groceries.
Every Thursday leading up to World Cleanup Day, people from the surrounding local communities in Sawangan area can bring their recyclable waste to the ZeroWaste Center. The waste is being weighed and recorded, and in exchange, vouchers will be given based on the weight.
The kids from Sawangan Village, who come every Wednesday to our English Class, are already bringing bags with plastic waste to collect the waste vouchers with great enthusiasm. This is a great way to show them that waste can have value, and that they should treat it accordingly.
The waste vouchers can be exchanged during the bazaar on World Cleanup Day, and for every 10 points that people collect, they will receive 1kg rice, or other groceries like coffee, eggs, and other useful products.
By doing this, we are supporting the local communities and at the same time, growing awareness about the value of waste.
