The ZeroWaste Bazaar, organized by the R.O.L.E. Foundation was held for the third time in 2026 on Friday, 17 July 2026. The program aimed to promote public awareness of household waste segregation and encourage communities to recognize waste as a resource with economic value. Participants brought pre-sorted recyclable waste from their homes to the ZeroWaste Center, where it was exchanged for coupons that could be redeemed for various items at the bazaar. Through this initiative, the R.O.L.E. Foundation seeks to strengthen community participation in sustainable waste management and foster long-term positive environmental impact.
For the first time, participants gathered at the registration area to receive an introductory briefing from the R.O.L.E. Foundation educators on household waste management and the updated procedures implemented at the ZeroWaste Center. This session provided a valuable opportunity to engage directly with the local community, explain the Foundation’s waste management program, and outline the ZeroWaste Bazaar process to ensure the event ran smoothly. A variety of essential items, including groceries, stationery, clothing, rice, and eggs, were made available for redemption, with additional rice and eggs provided in response to community demand. Although the bazaar was scheduled to begin at 1:00 PM, many participants arrived well in advance, demonstrating strong community interest. According to the event records, more than 60 participants attended the bazaar and redeemed their coupons for essential goods
During the ZeroWaste Bazaar, a total of more than 3,500 coupons were redeemed by participants. To ensure equitable distribution of essential goods, redemption limits remained in place for high-demand items, with a maximum of 5 kg of rice and 30 eggs per participant. This approach helped ensure that a greater number of community members were able to access these essential items while maintaining a fair and well-managed distribution process.
The ZeroWaste Bazaar continues to provide meaningful benefits to the local community by enabling participants to exchange recyclable waste for essential household items. Beyond meeting daily needs, the program reinforces the value of proper waste segregation and demonstrates that waste can be transformed into a valuable resource. By rewarding responsible waste management practices, the initiative encourages lasting behavioral change while strengthening community engagement in sustainable environmental practices.
