In a series of 7 blogs, the 6 R’s of Sustainability (Review, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rethink your Residue) are explained to give practical information about what we as a consumer can do to reduce our ecological footprint by applying these practices in our daily life.

6: RETHINK Your RESIDUE

RETHINK Your RESIDUE is the 6th and last R of Sustainability that R.O.L.E. Foundation practices and preaches. And it’s a simple one. Now that you are following the previous 5 R’s, you have already decreased your waste with a substantial amount. Now it’s time to re-evaluate what waste you still create. See what products you can further eliminate or exchange with others to even further decrease your amount of waste.

Adopting a Zero Waste lifestyle is one of the most sustainable ways of living. A Zero Waste lifestyle influences all environmental areas by preventing resource extraction, reducing the amount of materials sent to the landfill or incinerator, and reducing pollution from producing, transporting, or disposing of materials.

Zero Waste is often shown as something not easily accessible. For example, making your own soap just may not be practical in your life. But it’s actually very easy to take simple steps toward a Zero Waste life. In fact, not only will you reduce waste, adopting a Zero Waste lifestyle can often be more affordable. Composting, buying second-hand, sharing when you can, or packing your own lunch are all simple steps you can take toward Zero Waste, all while saving money too!

Your waste is your responsibility

In Nature there is no such thing as ‘waste’. As a human, it’s impossible to have a complete Zero Waste life, but you can live your live creating as less waste as possible.

REVIEW your current waste, REFUSE what you don’t need, REDUCE what you do need, REUSE by using reusables, RECYCLE what you can’t refuse, reduce or reuse, and RETHINK your residue waste, so you can eliminate even more waste.
