Preserving the environment is not just get done by taking care of existing natural resources. This behavior can be maintained by utilizing the garbage in the house.

The Type of Waste

Household waste consists of two types, namely organic waste and non-organic waste. Organic waste is waste that comes from the rest of living things that are easily decomposed naturally without human intervention processes to decompose, such as the leftovers of vegetables, fruits, and dry leaves. Meanwhile, inorganic waste is waste that is no longer used and is difficult to decompose. Inorganic waste that is buried in the ground can cause soil pollution because inorganic waste is classified as a substance that is difficult to decompose. The waste that is buried deep in the ground for a long time can cause damage to the soil layer.

Organic Waste Nowadays

It is undeniable that household waste is a problem that has not been effectively resolved. Even though there are facilities from the government in a form of waste disposal site (TPS), at the end, the waste is only collected into piles of garbage in a final disposal site (TPA) without any further action. To avoid this, there is actually an effective way out that everyone can do. Instead of being thrown away and left in the landfill, household organic waste actually has a high value of use. Organic waste at home is actually useful for certain purposes, namely as an ingredient for making compost.

What is compost ?

Compost is the result of the decomposition of microorganisms or bacteria that decompose organic materials. As one of our missions is to protect the earth and educate the public in waste management. We are the role foundation to process the organic waste that we produce by making compost to meet the needs of our gardens. Curious about our composting system? First of all the materials that we require to make compost are:

  1. Green material for nitrogen elements such as green leaves, green grass, and food waste.
  2. Brown materials for carbon such as dry leaves, rice husks, dry yard waste.
  3. Microorganisms to speed up the process by using animal waste such as cows, pigs, chickens, horses, goats or liquid compost.

All the ingredients are mixed in one place then stir so that everything is evenly mixed then add enough water. Let it stand for approximately 2 months until fully decomposed. The smaller compost material is, the faster it will be decomposed. Therefore, chopping the compost material up is important.
