The ZeroWaste Speech Contest returned on Friday, August 8, 2025, bringing together an inspiring group of 29 young speakers. The participants included 25 students from Bali WISE Intake 62 and four interns from Cendikia Harapan School.

Each contestant gave an impassioned and insightful speech, drawing from their personal experiences with environmental issues. Their topics were diverse, covering everything from the water crisis and air pollution to plastic waste, threats to marine life, and the general environmental conditions in Bali.

The contest’s main goal is to improve students’ English and public speaking skills while also deepening their understanding of environmental challenges. By sharing real-life stories, the students not only practiced effective communication but also connected the audience to the urgent reality of our planet’s struggles.

A Platform for Practical Learning

In the competition, all speeches were delivered in English and were limited to three minutes. This event is a key part of the Environmental Study class for Bali WISE students, offering a practical way to apply what they learn in the classroom. The wide variety of speech topics highlighted the many environmental challenges faced across Indonesia and beyond, from water shortages in rural villages to urban smog, the decline of coral reefs, and climate-related disasters.

A panel of experienced judges evaluated each speaker based on several criteria: speech structure, diction, confidence, clarity of the environmental message, and creativity. The judges’ feedback was designed to help each participant improve both their technical speaking skills and their ability to inspire an audience. The event was defined by the speakers’ enthusiasm, careful preparation, and genuine passion, which made their messages even more impactful.

The ZeroWaste Speech Contest continues to be a valuable platform for young people, especially Bali WISE students, to refine their skills, share their insights, and grow as future leaders in conservation. We hope this initiative will keep empowering more students to speak up, take action, and protect the world we all share.
