On 4 November 2025, the R.O.L.E. Foundation conducted a beach cleanup initiative at Tanjung Benoa Beach, engaging more than 50 participants consisting of volunteers from B1G1 and R.O.L.E. Foundation staff. All participants demonstrated strong enthusiasm as they collected waste along the coastline. The team successfully gathered a total of 414.61 kilograms of non-organic waste, which was subsequently transported to our ZeroWaste Centre for proper sorting and disposal. We extend our sincere appreciation to B1G1 for their invaluable support in making this program possible, as well as for their continued collaboration in other initiatives that contribute to positive environmental impact. Their collective efforts highlight the power of community action in addressing the pressing issue of marine debris. This program not only focused on waste removal but also aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting and preserving our oceans.

Location and Condition of the Beach

Tanjung Benoa Beach serves as a major destination for tourism and water sports, attracting a high volume of visitors each day. However, this intensified activity has placed considerable pressure on the environment, resulting in the presence of single-use plastics, food packaging, and other forms of debris. Although local communities conduct periodic cleanups, waste accumulation remains a persistent issue due to limited waste management infrastructure and low awareness among beachgoers. In response to these challenges, the R.O.L.E. Foundation and its partners selected Tanjung Benoa as this month’s cleanup site. This initiative seeks not only to safeguard the beach’s natural beauty but also to encourage broader commitment to responsible environmental stewardship.

Waste Collection and Separation

During the cleanup, approximately 414.61 kilograms of non-organic waste were collected within roughly one hour. The largest portion—over 45%—was classified as residue, consisting of materials that were either severely damaged or heavily contaminated, rendering them unsuitable for processing at our facility. This category will be transported to a landfill for appropriate disposal and management. Glass bottles represented a significant share of the collection, totaling nearly 60 kilograms. These materials will be processed at our center, with a portion directed to a waste bank to support more efficient recycling efforts. Hard plastics—including bottles, cups, and styrofoam—accounted for approximately 10% of the total waste and will similarly be managed primarily through the waste bank for further recycling. Soft plastics, along with miscellaneous items such as shoes and sandals, comprised a smaller proportion of the waste gathered during the initiative.
